In case you haven't noticed, I have stayed away from Facebook since the end of May to see what that would feel like. I can safely say I am none the worse for wear and dare I say, happier for it (though I do miss the birthday reminders!!). And while I admit I've lost the "thread" with a few people I care about, it just means I have to work harder at staying in touch.
Given the weaponizing of misinformation and the inhumane, vitriolic hate that Facebook enables (it by no means created it), it's time for me to delete my account once and for all - because Facebook is ONLY its users (plus the few thousand bots, trolls and fact deniers who also use it.) The Facebook idea isn't the problem - a complete lack of moral leadership by its executives forced my decision.
I urge everyone to find a new, common platform to share your thoughts and dreams along with your pictures and videos. Until then, be kind to one another and fight the liars and misinformers as much as you can. Be well, stay safe and don't forget: non illegitimi carborundum.
